At the beach!

Never thought I'd be sitting on the beach enjoying the sunshine and beautiful weather in the Netherlands. I have been so lucky with the weather here, it's about 75 degrees...practically perfect! It's Saturday so the whole town is down at the beach, walking the boardwalk, kicking around the futbol and of course enjoying their ice cream cones while riding their bikes. I sat and just observed for a couple hours while catching some rays. Nice and relaxing after exploring Amsterdam. Well off to rent a bike and cruise around the city...wish me luck!

I amsterdam...

As I mentioned before the Dutch LOVE their bicycles. It is probably more likely to be hit by a bicycle here then a car!! But they take such good care of them and decorate them to the 'T'.


Yesterday I visited the Anne Frank house as well as the Van Gogh museum in the park. Such a nice city and beautiful to walk around with all the garden markets and water canals running through the city. Today we plan on renting a paddle boat to cruise the canals and take our own tour.

First day and I already love it!

Made it here this morning and I am pleased with the cleanliness and welcoming character that Amsterdam has. The canals are beautiful, no wonder everyone rides their bikes everywhere in this city. I instantly made an Austrailian friend. We traveled the downtown after lunch along the canal and then watched the 'footie' game! Go U.S.! That was an amazing game! I love how enthusiastic they are about futbol here! Now just meeting others in the hostel and enjoying good food and good conversation. Really liking it so far... :)

Off I go!!

Here I go off on my adventure. Just my backpack and me (and maybe one extra bag to fit the odds and ends)! Just got dropped off at the train station and on my way to Chicago airport. Plane leaves tonight and I should be in Amsterdam by morning.

Last night at the lake...

Just look at these sunsets we have been having on my last few nights here. After a wonderful day out on the boat in the sandbar we got to enjoy that view up on Gram's porch. What a life we live... :)


Gram and I were practicing for all I will get to enjoy over the next six weeks! Wine and cheese and strawberries.. oh my! So delicious! Thanks to all my Ohio fam and Gram for a great beginning to the summer!
