Flashback to Eschenbach

Spent the night in Eschenbach to visit Jim's second family...Fritz, Karen and Karl-Heinz. They took good care of all of us when we visited last Christmas and I wanted to go and see them again! It was so fun to be back in Eschenbach, especially when there was no snow on the ground and we could spend time in their garden.

We had an afternoon BBQ with delicious food and home grown butter lettuce from Fritz's garden. We spent the rest of the night reminiscing and chatting with good company. Jim had to work today so we woke up really early and drove back to Bamberg, but not before Karen made us a nice breakfast and sent us on our way. They will forever be my favorite Germans!! :)

Around town on our bikes!

I have my own bike now so we can explore the town in a whole new way! We headed down by the river and biked into the city. We went up to the top of the of the town and looked over all the red roof tops below.

While we were up there we visited the rosengarten (rosegarden) that over looks the whole town.

As we moseyed on down the hill we found ourselves in 'Little Venice' which is a part of town named for all of the canals and waterways that run through the city.

After we visited all the different parts of the city we worked an appetite and found ourselves on our favorite street, Sanstraße, and went to have some very delicious typical Franconian food. This food is best paired with the brewery's very own Rachbier, a beer that was accidentally smoked once during a fire. The people liked it so much that they still make it like that today.

Bike trip

I decided to go the opposite way on my bike out of town, uphill towards Tütschengereuth. On my way up a passed through a small town that had a little church and
the bells where ringing. Every house in the town was decorated with flowers and it was so cute! My favorite was this little green one that looked perfectly groomed with pink flowers!

After this town I was out on the countryside overlooking all the surrounding cities. It was a great place to take a morning ride. A breath of fresh air!

Bamberg at sunset...

We decided to have a lazy day today and stay in the house for most of the day. I planned our big road trip that we will be taking next week when Kelley gets here. We've decided to go in a big circle from Bamberg up to Frankfurt, down to Heidelberg, up to Köln, over to Hannover, up to Berlin, pass through Leipzig, and finally back to Bamberg. Should be really fun!! Google says it's going to look like this...

We headed down to Bamberg for some dinner at a really good Greek restaurant and strolled around downtown at sunset, even though sunset here doesn't happen until about 9:30.

It's a holiday in Germany tomorrow so everyone is out and about strolling and soaking up the good weather! It has been so beautiful since I have been here! I am so blessed!!

Tomorrow we are off to a couple of thrift shops to see if I can get a good deal on a bicycle. Everything is so close to us that it is easier to just hop on bikes! Especially because parking is a hot commodity downtown.
